About a week ago we received news of Kanye West becoming the musical executive producer for the new Baton Rouge-shot TV series Underground. The newest member of the Underground family is Amirah Vann. She joins the likes of Devon Gummersall (Mad Men) and Mykelti Williamson (Justified) who had previously joined the cast of the Underground Railroad period piece.
WGN America’s Underground is a pre-Civil war drama revolving around the audacious pioneers that traveled underground to freedom. Sony Pictures and Tribune Studios take the journey with a group of slaves who flee a Georgia plantation in hopes of traveling across the country to earn their freedom.
Vann will play Ernestine, the head house slave. Ernestine is a master in navigation around the plantation but will be greatly tested when the slaves she once called family run. You might have seen Amirah Vann in the HBO comedy series Girls. Her other credits include Tracers and And So It Goes.
Shooting is set to begin on April 13 in Baton Rouge. Cast and crew will travel to Georgia to film as well. Underground will premiere on WGN America next spring. If you’re interested in working on the set of Underground, then visit jobScene for more information.
