‘Fantastic Four’ Wraps Filming In Baton Rouge

Fantastic Four Schlittz and GigglesAfter a somewhat tumultuous prep, The Fantastic Four finishes filming in Baton Rouge on Thursday. The Twentieth Century Fox production has filled the Celtic Media Centre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the last several months. The cast and crew celebrated at a wrap party on Saturday night.

Actress Kate Mara, who portrays Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, threw a photo up on her Twitter account on Saturday, featuring her with Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. “Thank you, @Miles_Teller. I miss your dance moves already,” she said. The photo was taken outside of the eatery Schlittz & Giggles Pizzeria on 3rd Street in Baton Rouge.

Directed by Chronicle director Josh Trank, The Fantastic Four is rumored to be a tangential take on the superhero tone established so successfully by Marvel Studios. Skewing closer to the found footage feel of Chronicle, the new fantastic film features a much younger cast than many expected, suggesting the reboot will be a far departure from the fun but silly tone of Tim Story’s 2005 film Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Those films featured an all-star cast that included Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Julian McMahon and the great Michael Chiklis. The cast of Trank’s Four – including Mara, Bell, Teller, Jordan and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes villain Toby Kebbell – are far from complete unknowns, but none bring the star power studio tentpoles once relied so heavily on to ensure box office success. Some successful comic book movies have cast unknowns, like Chris Hemsworth as Thor, then catapulting them into international stardom.

Trank has also been tapped to direct one of the Star Wars spinoff movies scheduled to follow up the release of the first Disney-produced film in the franchise, JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

Miles Teller, who plays Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, posted a photo on Instagram of him and Jamie Bell at the wrap party. “That’s a wrap on the lovely and talented @_KateMara. They couldn’t have picked a better invisible woman for me to lust after,” Teller said on Twitter.

While the cast and crew of The Fantastic Four were celebrating offsite, director Andrew Drazek was screening his new film Student Bodies at Celtic Studios for members of the film community in Baton Rouge.

The Fantastic Four looks like its on track for its release next summer. The film is produced by Gregory Goodman, Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker and Matthew Vaughn. Marvel trio Avi Arad, Kevin Feige and Stan Lee are executive producers, although the film is Fox production not under the creative umbrella of Mother Marvel.

The Fantastic Four opens on June 19, 2015.
