Southern Design Week to Debut November 3-9

by Michelle Preau on September 5, 2014

Regional fashion weeks have become fashionable, popping up everywhere across the country. Now the newly formed Southern Coalition of Fashion and Design (SCFD) is launching a new branded event, “Southern Design Week.” The new fashion week will debut this year from November 3-9.

Southern Design Week is a new project from NOLA Fashion Week founder Andi Eaton, who plans to showcase Spring/Summer 2015 collections from established and upcoming designers across the Southern region. Eaton also has a new book debuting in October entitled New Orleans Style.

Southern Design Week will feature a week of presentations, runway and special events at handpicked locations that spotlight New Orleans’ history and charm. New Orleans painter James Michalopoulos’ Old New Orleans Rum Distillery will be the central location for runway shows. Southern Design Week hopes to stand in contrast to other shows that put emphasis on retail as a key component. Southern Design Week’s overall goal is to support the Southern design community and help it grow.

Collections for the shows are set to premiere to an audience of boutique buyers, bloggers, media and trendsetters. The collections will have high priority on the designers, both established and emerging, and the process of creation.

Southern Design Week will be held November 3-9 in New Orleans at the Old New Orleans Rum Distillery. Additional venues and schedule of events are coming soon. For more information and membership passes visit
