HBO has just announced new cast members for the fifth season of the hit series Game of Thrones. Those present at Comic-Con San Diego also got a glimpse of many of these characters in a video unveiled on Friday, July 25. New cast members include:
Jonathon Pryce as the High Sparrow, a devout leader who came to King’s Landing as a reminder of the poor and unforgotten people of the world. He has a large group of followers who have swarmed the city to minister cries of corruption from the highest ends. Pryce is a well known and well respected actor with memorable roles in Terry Gilliam’s visonary film Brazil (1985), the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and all three Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Alexander Siddig as Doran Martell, the ruling lord of Dorne. Unlike his older brother, Prince Oberyn Martell, he is much more even-tempered. Siddig is used to sporting sword and armor as he has starred in films such as Clash of the Titans (2010) and Kingdom of Heaven (2005). He is also known for his work in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Toby Sebastian as Trystane Martell, son of Prince Doran and heir to Dorne. He has been betrothed to Myrcella Baratheon as part of the alliance with Tywin Lannister. Sebastian is a young actor that is a newcomer to the entertainment scene. He starred in After the Dark (2013) and appears in the upcoming Barely Lethal with Jessica Alba.
Nell Tiger Free as Myrcella Baratheon, the eldest child of Cersei Lannister. After years of being a guest of Prince Doran and even betrothed to his son, her position is questioned with the death of the Oberyn Martell. At only fifteen years old, Free is a British actress who appeared in the TV movie Mr. Stink.
DeObia Oparei as Areo Hotah, the long-serving and loyal captain of Doran Martell’s palace guards. He is known for playing the Destroyer in Doom (2005), a role in Moulin Rouge! (2001) and Alien3 (1992).
Enzo Cilenti as Yezzan, a wealthy slave trader before slave trading was outlawed. Cilenti is an actor/producer who has been involved in films since the late 90s, with roles in The Fourth Kind (2009), The Rum Diary (2011) and Next (2007).
Jessica Henwick as Nymeria (“Nym”) Sand, the second eldest of Prince Oberyn’s bastard daughters. Perhaps the most noteworthy detail of her character is that she is “deadly with a whip.” Henwick is a young actress gaining popularity in UK television. She has appeared in Spirit Warriors (2010), Silk (2011) and the upcoming show Balsa Wood.
Rosabell Laurenti Sellers as Tyene Sand, the last daughter of Prince Oberyn. Her talent is twin daggers. In real life, she is a talented actress scoring her first title role in TV movie Memories of Anne Frank (2009). She also starred in The Whistleblower (2010) and has been acclaimed by the Italian Film Critics Association as “Most Promising Young Talent.”
Keisha Castle-Hughes as Obera Sand, the eldest bastard daughter of Prince Oberyn. Her weapon of choice is not noted although she is reportedly a “fearsome warrior.” Keisha is from Western Australia and has been the star of Whale Rider (2002), The Nativity Story (2006) and even Star Wars: Episode III (2005).
The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning fantasy series Game of Thrones is scheduled to return to TV for its fifth season in 2015.
