Les Miles Hires Alabama’s Kevin Steele as Defensive Coordinator

by Jordan McGuire on January 14, 2015

Les Miles was in talks with signing Nick Saban protege, defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. Instead, Miles landed Kevin Steele, Alabama’s linebacker coach. Steele had stints with Nebraska, Florida State, the Carolina Panthers and Clemson. His Clemson exit was less than impressive with Steele’s Clemson  defense allowing seventy points against West Virginia. But they say Kevin Steele is a great recruiter and recruiting has continued to keep LSU competitive even as it has struggled.

With the unsettling departure of John Chavis, Miles was in need of an elite defensive coordinator. Chavis had already mentally moved on before the Tigers even faced the underwhelming Fighting Irish from Notre Dame. After mentally departing, Chavis physically moved on directly following Nashville’s Music City Bowl and shipped out to Texas A&M, where he will now face off against his former Tigers.

w_oregon_195LSU is also currently in talks with the passionate Ed Orgeron, who has experience in the SEC coaching at Arkansas, Tennessee and Ole Miss, where he was the head coach. Orgeron will likely become the Tigers defensive line coach, a spot where the Tigers have been one of the most overrated teams in the country. The Bayou Bengals have seen great recruits underperform at the defensive tackle positions and hopefully Orgeron can maximize players at that position.

We will see if these hires by the Mad Hatter will help the Tigers prevail. And lets all hope Ohio State’s Braxton Miller can transfer and play so we won’t have to sit through another season of Baton Rouge Quarterback Mediocrity.
