When direct Edgar Wright abruptly left Marvel’s Ant-Man, a film he’s been developing since the mid-2000s, we knew there was a good chance some of the film’s stellar cast might have to jump ship. Mostly because of the inevitable schedule shift that could conflict them out.
Well, Ant-Man‘s schedule did shift and the Marvel show has lost some of its busy cast, including The Conjuring star Patrick Wilson, Avatar actor Matt Gerald and Kevin Weisman. They’ll miss out on working at Pinewood Studios Atlanta with Peyton Reed, who stepped in to sit in the director’s chair vacated by Wright.
Some might question Marvel’s decision-making during the development process of Ant-Man but it’s really hard to argue with Kevin Feige’s process when the end-products have been solid, especially considering the quality of sequels like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which could have just been a rote repetition of its predecessor.
The remaining cast and crew of Ant-Man were present at Comic Con in San Diego over the weekend for the Marvel Panel, along with the filmmakers of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy, which opens in theaters this Friday.
Patrick Wilson can next be seen in the Anthony Burns-directed dark comedy North of Hell, which shot in New Orleans last year. He also recently shot the drama Zipper in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
