TRAILER: ‘Scream Queens’ Latest Promo

by Jordan McGuire on June 23, 2015

The most recent teaser trailer of the New Orleans-shot Scream Queens, the genre blending horror-comedy anthology series, shows the underlying motives of the Wallace University Red Devil mascot. A couple of months ago, show creator Ryan Murphy claimed that the identity of the killer would be revealed at the end of the show. Fans can see the killer eyeing his/her future victims from outside of the majestic sorority house.

In the trailer, we see each cast member together at a sorority party. Inside the house, there’s an abundance of red solo cups and the song “Die Tonight?” by Charli XCX keeping the party alive. We see Emma Roberts and Abigail Breslin; the unwanted pledges, Keke Palmer and Lea Michele; and the dean and scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis. The party is rocking inside as the killer waits just beyond the front doors wielding a familiar knife.

The first season of Scream Queens is set to premiere this fall on Fox. The lethal cast includes Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele, Ariana Grande, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Nick Jonas, Skyler Samuels, Billie Lourd and Oliver Hudson.

Each week at least one character will be killed, though it is unclear which character will be killed off first. After reading the YouTube comments – I don’t suggest this tactic – many think Jamie Lee Curtis could be the mystery killer. Leave a comment below and tell us who you think the killer is.

INT’L TRAILER: Baton Rouge-Shot ‘Fantastic Four’

by Jordan McGuire on April 6, 2015

Above is an international trailer for the Baton Rouge-shot flick Fantastic Four. You can watch the initial teaser trailer here. Still no answers to the “Be ready for what is coming” dialogue but we’re getting closer.

The new international trailer shows us some of the same images we saw in the first teaser trailer. The newest installment brings the four a little closer and reveals their powers more individually.

We see Johnny “flame on,” we see Sue Storm’s blue force-field, we see The Thing’s massive rock crushing power and we see Reed Richard’s flexibility for a brief second.

The Interstellar-esque theme continues with this international trailer. The corn fields and the endless world destruction reminds me of the imagery in Christopher Nolan’s most recent sci-fi epic. After recently binge watching and finally finishing season three of House of Cards, I couldn’t help but love Freddy’s (Reg E. Cathey) methodical voice-over narration. Still no sign of Toby Kebbell playing Victor Domachev but I’m sure it won’t be long before he shows up.

Fantastic Four is directed by Chronicle helmer Josh Trank. The superhero film stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell.

The film wrapped in Baton Rouge in early August 2014 and is set to be released August 7.

Kono Productions and Creative Control will host a private screening of King of New Orleans at The Prytania Theatre on Thursday, February 5. An after party will follow the screening at Le Bon Temps Roulé.

King of New Orleans, a project written and shot in New Orleans, tells the story of the father and son relationship of a cabbie and his son, a Harvard drop out. The movie shows the deterioration of a man and his son’s failed attempts at success. King of New Orleans is directed by Coodie & Chike and written by Brian R. Friedman. David Jensen stars as the cab driver and Richard Brien plays his son.

Director Chike Ozah is a New Orleans native and the director of Benji, the highly acclaimed 30 for 30 ESPN series. Writer Brian R. Friedman also resides in New Orleans and has been friends with Chike for quite some time. Friedman has covered Chike in the past for NolaVie as Chike’s Benji was a huge success at the Tribeca Film Fest in 2012. The film’s star, Jensen, is currently in Louisiana filming Geostorm.

In the trailer, we see the tense relationship of father and son parallel the night life of New Orleans. “There’s no place like home” seems to be a major theme. The dialogue and cinematography reinforce this theme and also showcases the beauty of the Big Easy.

The trailer shows the cab driver engaging in jovial conversations with his patrons. Each passenger seems to reveal more than they would normally due to the effects of New Orleans’ beverages. The film’s look is similar to the documentary style that was used in the 30 for 30 series.

PHOTOS: ‘Fantastic Four’

by Jordan McGuire on January 28, 2015

With the incredible buzz lingering from Guardians of the Galaxy and the new hype regarding Ant-Man it seems that Fantastic Four will fit the mold of the next big summer movie. The Fantastic Four trailer shows glimpses of Interstellar-like cornfield settings and has similarities to the Godzilla trailer. Fox has done their job of creating a dark environment the Four will inhabit.

The superhero team will reform their origins and powers will collide. The voiceover within the trailer is similar to Michael Douglas’ in the trailer for Ant-Man. The lulling sounds of Reg E. Cathey’s voice oddly brings intensity immediately and we must “be ready for what’s coming.” There’s more!

The one night stand. It was a one night thing so you hope to never see them again. But what happens when your walk of shame comes to a halt due to a snow storm? Analeigh Tipton stars in this upcoming rom-com as a woman who has a one night stand to get out of her rut…and gets stuck at the random hookup’s apartment. Miles Teller stars alongside Tipton as they are forced to extend their mistake into another day and night. Their bickering eventually leads to giving each other sex advice.

Scott Mescudi (ok, ok Kid Cudi) and Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl) also star. Max Nichols directed the film.

TRAILER: ‘Annabelle’

by Arthur Vandelay

The breakout star of The Conjuring was a dead-eyed doll named Annabelle. Although she didn’t see much action in that back-to-basics horror film by director James Wan, she’s front and center in the spinoff, entitled simply Annabelle. In The Conjuring, the story of Annabelle, as retold by the Warrens, is that she was owned by a demon-possessed college […]
