The Joy Theater in New Orleans (1200 Canal Street)presents a one night-only opportunity to see performances by 8 of New Orleans’ top comedians. Show organizer and headlining comedian Matt Owens will be joined by a host of up-and-coming and powerhouse New Orleans comics including Cyrus Cooper, Isaac Kozell, Tony Frederick, Mary-Devon Dupuy, Addy Najera and CJ Hunt. In November of 2014, Matt Owens was personally selected to open/feature for Louis CK at a sold out show at New Orleans’ historic Joy Theater. He was featured at Hell Yes Fest in 2014 and 2015. In February 2015, he performed five nights of shows in New York City. Twice in 2015, Matt headlined at the Joy Theater. After receiving a full acting scholarship, Matt studied and performed Theatre at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Matt performs stand-up regularly in New Orleans (House of Blues, Howlin’ Wolf) and throughout the Southeast. He hosts a monthly New Orleans Comedy Showcase at The Government Street Grocery in Ocean Springs, MS, and regularly headlines sold-out shows at the Castle Theater. In 2014 & 2015, he organized and headlined a New Orleans Comedy Road Tour which ended with sold out shows in the resort town of Saint Simon’s Island, GA. Matt has opened for Hannibal Buress, Dave Stone, Louis Katz and has shared the stage with Bill Burr and Darrell Hammond at the House of Blues. Matt was the headliner and co-producer for The Jay Thomas Show Live from New Orleans on Sirius Xm radio. He is booked for 8 shows at the Joy Theater in 2016.
Tony Frederick is an actor, writer and comedian featured in over 40 films, television & commercial productions. He is also a Professional Equity Theater Actor, acting opposite 7 Oscar winners including Halle Berry, Forrest Whitaker, Don Cheadle, Ellen Burstin and Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was voted Gulf South’s Funniest Comedian in 2010 and placed second in 2011, 2012 and 2015 as well as second in Louisiana’s Funniest Person competition in 2011. He is a member of The Screen Actors Guild where he serves on the Screen Actors Guild National Comedians Committee. Television credits include the HBO Series Treme’, Dallas, The Young and the Restless & NCIS: New Orleans. Film credits include Monster’sBall, Hurricane Season, Contraband, Fire with Fire, When the Game Stands and Tall and Terminator: Genisys.
CJ Hunt is a writer and comedian living in New Orleans. He is a co-founder of The New Movement and the creator of the original series Sunken City (as seen in Indiewire, Paper Magazine, and Mashable). He travels the country performing with the sketch group Stupid Time Machine. Recent appearances include San Francisco Sketchfest, Chicago Sketchfest, Toronto Sketchfest, and the Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival.
