The final season of the popular HBO series True Blood is sadly coming to an end this Sunday. This season kicked off with the biggest premiere of the series bringing in 5.8 million views. The series has been a high point of HBO’s original programming since it premiered on September 7, 2008.

True Blood, which is set in the fictional rural town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, has kept up its reputation for thrills throughout the series, adding werewolves and faeries to the mystical drama’s list of supernatural characters. It is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels written by Charlaine Harris. The series starred Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Deborah Ann Woll and Alexander Skarsgard.

Because sets for the series were built outside of Los Angeles before Louisiana’s film crew base had grown enough to support a television series, True Blood shot only a small portion of the series in Louisiana. The cult Sunday night series quickly became a weekly commercial for the Bayou State, creating a rabid fan base eager to visit the state where Sookie, Bill and Eric lived.

Tune in to HBO this Sunday, August 24 to say farewell to Sookie and the all of our favorite vampires, werewolves
